Privacy Policy

Who we are

Hook Yeah is an app that lets you save and loop the most memorable segment of a song, the hook. It is developed and operated by SGTI ("we", "us", "our"). Questions about this policy can be sent to hello@sgti.tech.

What data we collect

Hook data

When you save a hook, the app saves the following information to your iCloud account:

This data is stored in Apple's iCloud Key-Value Store, which means it is synced across your devices using your Apple ID and is subject to Apple's iCloud privacy policy. We do not have direct access to your iCloud storage.

When a server sync feature is introduced (planned for a future release), hook data will also be stored on our servers. At that point, each installation will be assigned a random Privacy ID, a UUID generated on first launch and stored in your device's Keychain (which survives app deletion). This ID is used solely to associate your hooks with your device on our servers and to honor data deletion requests. It will be visible in the app's Settings screen so you can quote it if you contact us about your data. This policy will be updated before server sync goes live.

Crash reports and diagnostics

If the app crashes or encounters an error, we collect:

This data is collected via Sentry (sentry.io) and Apple's MetricKit framework. It does not include your name, Apple ID, hook data, or anything that identifies you as a person.

What we do not collect

How we use your data

Hook data is used solely to provide the app's core functionality: saving your hooks so they are available next time you open the app and across your devices.

Crash and diagnostic data is used to identify and fix bugs, and to monitor app performance and stability.

Aggregate and anonymized analytics

We intend to analyse hook data in aggregate and in anonymized form, meaning data that has been stripped of any information that could identify an individual user, to understand patterns in how people engage with music.

Examples of what this analysis looks like in practice:

This aggregate data may in future be shared with or licensed to music industry partners, such as record labels, music publishers, or analytics companies, for purposes including:

This aggregate data will never include your name, Apple ID, or Privacy ID. It will only ever describe patterns across many user not the behaviour of any individual. For example a count of how many users loop a particular segment of a song.

Technically, the data we hold internally is pseudonymous rather than fully anonymous: your hooks are linked to your Privacy ID (a random UUID) on our servers, which means we can identify and remove your records if you request it. This linkage is never shared externally. Only the stripped, aggregate output is shared with any third party.

If you would prefer your hook data to be excluded from aggregate analysis, contact us at hello@sgti.tech and include your Privacy ID (found in the app under Settings → Your Privacy ID). We will start excluding your data from all aggregate datasets within 30 days of your request. Please note that aggregate data compiled before your request cannot be retroactively altered, exclusion applies to future aggregation only.

Third-party services

Apple iCloud: stores your hook data on your device and syncs it across your Apple devices. Apple's privacy policy applies: apple.com/privacy.

Sentry: collects crash reports and performance diagnostics. Sentry's privacy policy applies: sentry.io/privacy. Crash data is retained by Sentry for 90 days.

Apple App Store: handles all payments. We do not receive or store your payment details.

Data retention

Hook data is stored in iCloud for as long as you use the app or until you delete individual hooks from within the app. Deleting the app removes the local copy; iCloud data can be cleared via your device's iCloud settings.

Crash data is retained by Sentry for 90 days and then automatically deleted.

When server sync is introduced, we will publish a specific retention period for server-stored hook data at that time.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

To exercise any of these rights, contact hello@sgti.tech and include your Privacy ID (Settings → Your Privacy ID in the app). We will respond within 30 days.

If you are in the European Economic Area, you have rights under GDPR. Your hook data as stored on our servers is pseudonymous personal data (linked to a random UUID, not your name or contact details). If you are in California, you have rights under CCPA. We do not sell personal data as defined under CCPA. Sharing aggregate, anonymized data with industry partners - where your Privacy ID has been stripped and only counts and positions remain - does not constitute a sale of personal data.

Children

Hook Yeah is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We will update this policy when we introduce new features that affect data collection or use - in particular before the server sync feature and any B2B data sharing arrangements go live. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect the most recent version. Continued use of the app after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
